Exam board changes exam results!!
Is it fair that some of us who were told we had a C, haven’t got our C in English? NO!
I’m sure you all have heard that Ofqual forced an exam bored to change its GCSE English grade boundaries TWO weeks before the results were given out! Is it fair that all these students which were predicted a C haven’t got it and now have to all re sit English next year?! One student who got in touch was Chloe Brooks from Doncaster told us that she can’t go to college this year because she didn’t get her C. So she said she has to stay at school for another year to take her exam again.
In ‘The Sun’ newspaper an article was wrote about John Townsley, who is a head teacher and ex Ofqual board member. He gave us his views on the situation from his point of view. He said “Glen Stacey who works for Ofqual should resign anyway, we can see in the most certain terms possible that ofqual are creating pressure to the awarding body concerned in order to bring down the number of C grades awarded” But ofqual said it was part of the regulator’s job to ensure that standards are kept the same and comparable with other years.
Exam board changes exam results!!
Double page spread:
This is a double page spread in a 'love it' magazine. This magazine's target audience is women around 16-50. One feature about this page which tells you it’s a women’s mag is the fact this true story is on a girl. Men wouldn’t want to buy a men’s mag to find this story inside because they wouldn’t want to read about this topic but women will because most women care about their health.
The text 'goodbye fat girl' is a main feature on this page. Bold and eye catching because the words 'goodbye' and 'girl' are in red and 'Fat' is in white it makes the word 'fat' stand out more. Also notice how the word 'fat' has been enlarged so that the word relates to the meaning. It also stands out on the blue background.
The main text which is in small black font is on top of a white background. This is so it makes it easier for the readers to read. It also makes it clear where the story is.
This double page spread has three columns and not much text. This is because the pictures of her transformation are very important for the readers to see how well she has done to lose all that weight.
Magazines:
this is the first page of one of 'pick me up's' magazines. This page tells you about everything you can find in the magazine, it gives you page topics and page numbers so you can find what you want to read fast.
The target audience for this magazine is women around 16-50. Women who are interested in gossip and real life stories. The colures pink, yellow, baby blue and white tells us it’s a women’s magazine because they are girl’s colures.
You can also tell a target audience by the pictures which are printed. For example on this page there are pictures of cute dogs, heels and handbags and skinny women in dressers who look beautiful. Women relate to this pictures and topics that’s what makes them buy the magazine because they like them topics.
This page has a column on the left hand side which tells us about what we can find inside. There are topic headings which are in bold, pink text and then the blue text is the different topics about the main topic which it’s under. Then next to them are page numbers so that if you want to read about that subject you can flick straight to that page.
Notice how at the top of the page it says 'this week in your pick me up' this is so that the reader knows what this page is about. At the top of every page there is usually a page heading, so you know what that page is about and it saves time reading it all to find out.
Magazines:
The first thing that catches my eye on this magazine is the big main image of Twilights main role Robert Pattinson and straight away i know that the main story in the magazine will be about him. It has been printed to cover the whole page on the magazine so that it stands out.
The next thing my eyes are drawn to is the 'Mast Head' (title) which is printed in large bold red text which is sans serif. It has been placed at the top of the cover so that when on the magazine racks in the shops the magazine title stands. The reason why the mast head is printed like this is so that it catches the public's eye and so it stands out.
The bar code on the magazine is at the bottom left hand side, it’s not very big as it is only used to scan when paying.
The price on the magazine is at the top left hand side, it is printed in small font this is so that the price won’t put of the reader from buying it.
A main cover line is a sentence which is based on the main story inside the magazine. Also most of the time it will be related to the main image on the cover of the magazine. On this cover it has been placed at the bottom of the page in big yellow font so that you know what the main story is about.
Also the word 'free posters' which is at the top left of the cover is printed in a yellow font to make it look important. This is a example of a 'plug' because it is telling you what else is inside the magazine to try and convince you to buy it.
At the bottom left hand side of the magazine is the words 'fantastic exclusive' in white text in a red box. This is an example of a 'puff'. A 'puff' is exciting words which attract the reader.
Under the Mast head is a Strap line. This is to gives the reader more info about the magazine! For example on this cover it says 'the world's biggest movie magazine'.
